Red-osier Dogwood

now Cornus sericea sub sericea

One shrub, where the bushroad crosses 'elfin creek'. (North of Mendenhall subd.)
2017- almost 10 years later, there are many bushes now, all derived from that one, they are following the creek downstream.

Cornus means horn.
an osier-bed is a river-bed.
stolonifera - carrying 'suckers'.

I wonder how early they bloom?

I'm a big afacionado of the derivation of words. One of my only regrets in life is that I didn't take Latin in high school. Strike that ... one of my many regrets ... But behind every regret is another path taken that would also be a regret otherwise. There's a mass balance of conservation of regrets out there.
