On July 1 2014 i came upon a Nagoon berry that first looked the same, but today looking at the pictures it turns out to be a different subspecies then the one that grows around my place.

arctous - northern or land of  bears

Previously I have called it Arctostaphylos rubra
Kinnikinnik is an arctostaphylos, The Arctous has leaves with winged stalkes, blunt toothed margins, anthers without horns or awns, and juicy rather than mealy berries.

In the Yukon we also have Arctous alpina, A. alpina has hairs on the leaf stems,
and the leaves are smaller,
and
Arctous ruba; bare branches
Arctous alpina; persistant old leaves
